Coalition of Yoruba Youth organizations under the auspices of Yoruba Council of Youth has reacted to the current prosecution of the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Vanguard reports.
Addressing journalists on Monday in Abuja, Aremo Oladotun Hassan, the president of the coalition, wondered why the tribunal waited till now before the sudden trial.
According to him, the trial was another plot by the presidency to delay the proposed ministerial nominees screening, hence allow President Muhammadu Buhari to continue to run the country alone.
The president of the coalition also noted that the behaviour of the tribunal was an acts of desperation for power at all costs by some few oligarchists at the expense of Nigerians.
Accusing President Buhari of being behind the trial, Hassan said:
“We challenge the ways and manner of the sudden crude methodology and hasty wake of the CCB and CCT to have bracingly ordered the Inspector General of Police to arrest Senator Bukola Saraki, without due diligence fair-hearing exercise of its inherent powers, over allegation of 2003 declared assets, conclusively raised the suspicion, doubt and act of omission, which informed the questionable intentions, impregnated with deceits and indirect high-handedness veil of the CCT.
“This portends great danger, that for CCB to have waited this long at the peak week of September Senate Screening of President Muhammodu Buhari’s proposed ministerial nominees, another attempt to postpone and elongate the appointment of Ministers.
“We vehemently resist all attempt to drag the hallowed seat of the Senate President and Dr. Bukola Saraki into the mud and mucky waters of nepotism, witch-hunting and blackmail, predicated on politically motivated power tussle and shenanigans of the internal APC party permutations of sharing formula of offices amongst its divided tents that formed All Progressives Congress, which is the nucleus genesis that caused the current show of naked fire-powers and deadly force of shame. Displaying the Hand of Esau and Voice of Jacob syndrome.”
Reacting to the recent calls for Saraki’s resignation, the coalition noted that an accused is presumed innocent, until the contrary is proven in court.
Therefore, Hassan called on western leaders to raise their voice against the unjustified trial.
“If this precedence is allowed to sail through, it will emboldened the orchestras to cause more havoc, and no one will be insulated from this recycled style of leadership, leaving all of us in the helpless torture chamber and humiliation, in the prey hands of this political mafias and cabals,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has distance himself from the on-going trial of the Senate president by the CCT.
Garba Shehu, the president’s senior special assistant, said that third parties should not link Buhari to the case and stressed that the law does not make provision for the “Bureau and the tribunal to take instructions from any quarters.”
