There are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state has concluded plans to suspend Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central over unresolved rift between him the governor of the state, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
PM News reports the party had sent a letter to Sani asking him to before a disciplinary committee set up by acting chairman, Shuaibu Idris within seven days to answer questions on what the party termed “Anti Party Stand.”
However, the seantor was said to have rejected the letter.
Speaking on Tuesday, December 22, at a conference, Salisu Tanko Wusono, the APC spokesperson in Kaduna disapproved Sani’s refusal to accept the letter.
He called on Senator Sani, who is the chairman of the Senate committee on foreign and local debts to appear before the disciplinary committee within the stipulated seven days or face the wrath of the party.
In reaction, Comrade Suleiman Ahmed, Sani’s senior assistant, political and ideology said Sani rejected the letter because he did not know who signed the letter or the party office address.
“If the address of the party office in Kaduna he knew has been changed, Senator Shehu Sani was supposed to be informed, in the same vein if the acting chairman was appointed, he should have been notified,” he said.
He added that Sani would not respond to the invitation as he was not notified about the APC new state chairman and secretary.
Ahmed accused el-Rufai of sponsoring the two officers to suspend Sani for fear of his overwhelming popularity and performance.
“From now till 2019, Senator Shehu Sani will continue to challenge any El-Rufai policy suspected or adjudged to be anti masses,” Ahmed stated.
When contacted on the matter, Senator Sani said the purported invitation was just a cooked plan to smear his good name, adding that some influential people in power had a hand in it.
Senator Sani has been very outspoken over some of Governor el-Rufai’s policies which he considers anti-masses. Sani had condemned the Kaduna carnival organised by the state government, accusing the governor of being insensitive to the plight of the Kaduna people by organising a music festival as the state and Nigeria faces economic and security challenges.
