According to him, the controversy started when it was obvious that Oshiomhole was trying to be in full control of the state.
He also alleged that the controversial inauguration of the assembly in the night was the outcome of what he described as “dubious primaries” before the 2019 general elections.
Obaseki succeeded Oshiomhole on November 12, 2016, having won the governorship election. He’s expected to seek reelection when the state goes to governorship poll in 2020.
Already, a political rivalry is brewing between the two powerful Edo politicians ahead of the crucial election that would determine who will be in control of the South Southern state.
Recalled that in April 2019, one of Nigeria’s dailies reported that there’s a cold war between the two men.
Their differences had reportedly divided APC heavyweights in the state, both of them have denied the existence of a rift between them, reported Daily Independent.
It was also alleged that Obaseki who is unhappy over Oshiomhole’s grip on the affairs of the state waged war against the powerful loyalists of Oshiomhole, who also worked for the victory of Obaseki in 2016 poll.
According to reports, the governor had to make a U-turn when it was obvious that he would find it difficult to get things done without actively engaging the stakeholders. He opted to woo Oshiomhole’s foot soldiers to his side, which reportedly infuriated the former labour leader.
The latest political impasse in the state entered a new dimension when loyalists of both men fought to get the party’s tickets before the 2019 elections.
According to Daily Independent, Obaseki pushed his loyalists for the state House of Assembly election, who would assist bring his second term ambition to fruition while Oshiomhole also wanted his loyalists in the state Assembly.
In the last few months, the APC National Chairman had had to battle with several internal crises.
