Ebola in PH: FG summons emergency meeting

An emergency National Council on Health, NCH, meeting is holding today in Abuja following the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, outside Lagos.

The meeting will be the third in series since the outbreak of the disease in West Africa.
This came as widow of Dr Ike Enemuo, who died of Ebola in Port Harcourt has also tested positive to the virus.

Boko Haram Forcefully Conscript Youths To Fight Army

Following sustained Boko Haram attacks in the North-Eastern part of the country, thousands of Nigerians have been forced to flee their homes, swamping towns in the north of neighbouring Cameroon, authorities said yesterday. This came as Boko Haram terrorists, for three days, laid siege to Gamboru town, forcefully conscripting youths to fight both the Nigerian and Cameroonian troops. They were said to have killed those who resisted them.

After the three-day attack, 29 persons were killed, while 215 of the youths, who fled to Cameroon to escape the forceful conscription, have recounted their ordeals in the hands of the insurgents.

Cashless: NIMC, Unified Payments partner on National e-ID cards


The cashless policy received a boost last week with the announcement of a partnership between National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and Unified Payments for Processing in the payment application in the new National Electronic ID Card (eID).

In a statement announcing this development, Unified Payment said that, “With the eID card, citizens will have the ability to deposit funds, receive social benefits, pay for goods and services at Merchant locations within and outside Nigeria as well as draw cash from ATMs around the world.

Insecurity: Free, fair elections doubtful next year — NGE

►The Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, has said that the high level insecurity, insurgency and kidnappings in the country would not guarantee free, fair and credible elections in 2015.

►Rising from its 10th All Nigerian Editors Conference, ANEC, in Katsina, Katsina State, at the weekend, the NGE in a communique issued at the end of the 4-day conference, said the current state of insecurity must be addressed to strengthen the nation’s democracy and instil good governance.
