FRSC to Introduce “Flying Ticket Policy” for Road Offenders


Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), said the commission would soon introduce “Flying Ticket Policy’’ to penalise traffic offenders.

►He stated this at a conference organised for unit commanders of the commission on Thursday in Abuja.

Govt needs N200bn to compensate Abuja natives

►MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Senator Bala Mohammed, disclosed yesterday that at least N200 billion would be required to adequately compensate natives of Abuja whose lands, crops and heritage were acquired  for the development of the city.

►Mohammed, who spoke while hosting participants of the National Defence College, Course 23, 2014 as part of their study tour, explained that the villages to be compensated and resettled occupied an area of 250 square kilometers of the Federal Capital City, Abuja.

FG needs N26.9trn to provide infrastructure in 5 years

The Minister of National Planning Commission (NPC), Dr Abubakar Sulaiman, said on Thursday that N26.9 trillion would be required between 2014 and 2018 to implement the National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP).

Suleiman, who disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja, said the plan is aimed at delivering quality infrastructure across different sectors, including energy, transport, housing, water and agriculture.

Institute to release new wheat varieties in December

The Lake Chad Research Institute in Maiduguri says it will release two new wheat varieties that can yield six tonnes of wheat per hectare in December.

Dr Oluwasina Olabanji, the Executive Director of the institute, stated this in an interview in Abuja on Wednesday.
Olabanji said the tropical varieties are “Norman Borlaug” and “Reyna-28” which had undergone testing.

We say no to N65 ATM charge – Group

►Concerned Human Rights Nigeria, led by Declan Ihekaire, has risen against the recent re-introduction of ATM withdrawal charge of N65.00 by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, under the new governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

►Speaking at a press conference, Wednesday, Ihekhaire said there was no reason for the re-introduction of the ATM withdrawal charge, which was N100 under former CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and later abolished by him, and now N65.00 under Emefiele.

It’s dubious to raise Bring Back Jonathan bill board close to us — Ezekwesili

Former Minister of Education and leader of #BringBackOurGirls advocacy group, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has lashed out at the pro-Jonathan group for raising the BringBackJonathan bill- boards around the Unity Fountain in Abuja, describing their action as dubious and harsh to the spirit and rights of the missing Chibok school girls.

She stated this, Thursday, while reacting to the Presidential order that such bill-boards should be removed forthwith, during a street protest organised by the group in Abuja in demand for the rescue of the abducted school girls.
