3 killed, vehicles burnt as NURTW, hoodlums clash in Oshodi

Commercial activities were grounded for the better part of yesterday at the densely populated Oshodi area of Lagos, following a renewed clash between factions of the National Union of Transport Workers, NURTW, which left three persons dead and several others injured.
Part of the burnt Mosafejo Motor Park/market as a result of a renewed clash between factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, which led to the death of three persons, while many vehicles were burnt at Oshodi in Lagos.
Several vehicles were also burnt by the rampaging motor park touts, who freely engaged themselves with dangerous weapons. Police sources put the number of vehicles burnt at 11, while traders who partially witnessed the fracas, said over 30 vehicles were burnt.

Niger Delta ex-militant leaders, yesterday, said that the remarkable achievements made by the Nigerian armed forces, the Joint Multi-national Task Forces in their present onslaught against Boko Haram in the North-East region, have proved President Goodluck Jonathan’s critics wrong.

The ex-militant leaders added that the President has defeated his opponents who were carrying campaign of his ineffectiveness in tackling insecurity in parts of the North, as Mr. President had adopted a working strategy to end the Boko Haram menace.

APC reps revolt, abort House sitting

The sitting of the House of Representatives was, yesterday, disrupted after members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, rejected moves by the presiding officer of the House to stall a motion seeking to bar the military from playing a role in the conduct of the forthcoming elections.

The APC members, who now form the majority, were galled by the ruling of the deputy speaker of the House, Chief Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to derail the motion spearheaded by the APC minority leader.

After first walking out from the chambers, the APC members returned to put deliberations on a standstill, taunting the deputy speaker who they accused of foisting his will on majority of the members.
