Barely 24 hours after the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, cleared Obafemi Peter as one of the aspirants to participate in the forthcoming primary election to get a standard bearer ahead of the June 21, Ekiti State gubernatorial election, the party yesterday made a U- turn, withdrawing his provisional clearance.
A statement yesterday, by PDP national Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, read: “ The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has withdrawn the provisional clearance given to Peter Obafemi by the Ekiti Screening Appeal Committee..
“By this, Peter Obafemi is not eligible to participate in the primary to elect the candidate of the PDP for the Ekiti governorship election.”
It will be recalled the Chairman, Screening Committee and Senate Leader, Senator Ndoma-Egba, while submitting the report of his Committee to the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, at Legacy House, PDP Campaign Office, Abuja on Monday, said that Obafemi Peter was disqualified alongside Senator Bode Olowoporoku and Bosede Cecilia Dada because of no Tax Clearance certificate to show that he paid as at when due.
Peter Obafemi, the committee said, was disqualified for his inability to present his National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, discharge certificate.
But on Tuesday, both Olowoporoku and Peter appeared before the Senator Mohammed Magoro-led Appeal Committee, while Bosede Cecilia Dada did not appear before the Committee. The committee at the end of its sitting, again disqualified Senator Bode Olowoporoku following his failure to produce his tax clearance, but cleared Peter to join the earlier cleared 13 aspirants by Ndoma-Egba.
