Edo sets up Ebola c'ttee

AGAINST the backdrop of the spread of the Ebola disease, the Edo State Government has inaugurated a Rapid Response Committee that would be responsible for the control, monitoring and surveillance of the disease.

The committee is coming on the heels on the disclosure by the Edo State Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Professor Afekhide Omoti’s disclosure that a large number of medical doctors in the state have volunteered to offer themselves for the treatment of cases if there was any outbreak.

He, however, sought for life insurance for all heath workers that would be involved in the treatment of Ebola cases.

State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aihanuwa Eregie, who inaugurated the committee in Benin, said that the state government was taking a proactive action in the event of any reported outbreak of the disease in the state, adding that it had commenced the training of all medical personnel both in the public and private sectors

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Peter Ugbodaga, the Commissioner, said: “Edo State has sensitised and trained all health workers including those in the local government on surveillance, monitoring and control of Ebola disease in the event of any outbreak in any part of the state.”
