Fees reversal: Fashola counsels LASU students

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State at the weekend urged students of the Lagos State University, LASU, to choose always the path of dialogue, negotiation and resolution in every situation, rather than confrontation.

Fashola, who gave the advice while receiving the students, led by its union President, Mr. Nurudeen Yussuf on a thank you visit, following the reversal to old tuition fees last Thursday by the state government, affirmed that all the state’s commitment to the development of the school would not be adversely affected by the development.

Fashola maintained that the dream of the type of university that the people wanted could not be achieved if stakeholders do not take ownership.

“Every time I see Nigerian students murdered in universities abroad, my heart bleeds and until we build the type of institutions that those families seek outside the shores of this country, when they sent their children there, I know that it is possible but everybody must see himself as part of the solution instead of part of the problem”, he added.

Earlier, the President of the union, Yusuf said the students came to the governor to express their appreciation to him for acceding to their plea.
He also appealed to the governor to assist in ensuring the completion of the Students Arcade of the school, which is already at 80 percent completion.

Also speaking, the Zonal Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students NANS, South West, Mr. Sunday Ashafa commended the governor for the bold step which has elevated Lagos State to a prime position among tertiary institutions in the country.
