PDP Commends Jonathan on electricity tariff reduction

National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has hailed President Goodluck Jonathan for the 50 percent reduction in electricity tariff in the country.
The party therefore urged Nigerians to ensure that this positive trend was sustained and consolidated by coming out enmasse to vote for President Jonathan and other PDP candidates in the March 28 and April 11 elections.

In a statement yesterday by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, PDP noted that the reduction, which came two months after the cut in the pump price of petrol shows the President “as a listening and compassionate leader who has the interest and wellbeing of his citizens at heart.

“The development has shown that President Jonathan is always in touch with the people and issues that have direct bearing on their economic and social lives, the reduction was “a direct result of meticulous application of deliberate policies which took full cognizance of the impact of high electricity cost on the citizens and the economy.

“This reduction in electricity tariff has further strengthened the business-friendly environment created by the Jonathan administration which led to the unprecedented thriving of the private sector, our emergence as the largest economy in Africa and one of the fastest growing in the world.”

According to PDP, the step would not only translate into better living standard for Nigerians, but would also increase the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP as more investments were expected to spring up with more employment and business opening for Nigerians.

Metuh who noted that the nation will continue to witness the yields of populist policies of the Jonathan administration, however urged the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to ensure full implementation of the Transitional Electricity Market policy, which was designed to ensure an efficient cost reflectivity that would guarantee cheaper electric service in the country.
