General Muhammadu Buhari ‘s Victory Celebration Kills 7

Celebration of General Muhammadu Buhari ‘s victory at the March 28 presidential elections held across the country on Tuesday night turned tragedy in Kofar Dawanau, Dala local government area of Kano State.

Daily Trust reports that there was jubilation amongst residents following the announcement of the result when a vehicle on high speed crushed seven people to death along Kofar Dawanau in Dala local government area of the state.

The state’s emergency worker at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital said the victims comprised five children and two adults, adding that they were all confirmed dead at the hospital.

The emergency worker who did not want his name in print said the deceased were brought to the hospital from different locations were residents trooped out to celebrate Buhari’s victory.

Meanwhile, when Daily Trust correspondent visited the hospital on Wednesday morning at about 10.00am, no fewer than nine persons who sustained various degrees of injuries were seen at the Emergency unit receiving treatment.

One of the injured victims at the emergency unit who spoke with reporter, identified himself as Rabiu Adamu, said he was hit by a speeding vehicle when he went to their neighbourhood to watch the celebration.

“Five persons were confirmed dead when we were brought to the Hospital, their lifeless bodies have been taken by their parents,” he said.

A 10-year-old boy who was brought to the emergency unit from Bebeji local government area of the state was seen with injuries on his head and legs.

He urged the general public to be cautious in the celebration to avoid more casualties, just as he advised parents to warn their children against jumping to major roads in celebration.

One of the hospital workers revealed that only two corpses were deposited at the morgue, adding that one of the deceased was a boy who was hit by a speeding vehicle while the other was killed by political thugs.

When the state’s police command spokesman, ASP Magaji Musa Majia, was contacted, he said the case has not been formally reported.

The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Buhari, was officially announced the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of April 1, Wednesday.

The former military head of state floored the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in a keenly contested polls, but Jonathan while displaying statesmanship, called the President elect to congratulate him even before the official declaration by INEC.

Meanwhile, the special adviser on religious affairs to Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state, Alhaji Isah Ahmed Duniya Bahutu, also knocked down and killed an ex-soldier and injured four other youths that were celebrating Buhari’s victory in Birnin-Kudu local government area of  the state.
