APC Leaders To Decide Over Saraki, Dogara Actions

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has in clear terms, expressed its disappointment with the National Assembly leaders over what transpired in both chambers on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the party, the actions of Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara at the senate and house of representatives respectively, were totally unacceptable as it has vowed to stand by the lists sent to the senate president and speaker of the house.

Saraki had refused to allow senator Gbenga Ashafa of the APC read a letter from the national body as he simply ‘noted’ his points and ruled the senator out of order. And when he eventually confirmed reception of the letter, he refused to do according to what was listed by the national chairman.

PM News reports that the party’s national secretary, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, has now noted that the party executives will meet in the coming days to take certain actions on the supposed misdemeanor by the national assembly leaders.

“The National Caucus, Board of Trustees and National Executive Council of the party will meet within the next few days to discuss the evolving developments in the National Assembly,” a statement by the secretary read in part.

The party had sent letters to both chambers conveying names of its candidates for the principal offices of both chambers, but a faction of the lawmakers favoured choosing the leaders from the zones.

The senate leader, deputy senate leader, house leader, deputy house leader, chief whip and deputy chief whip, are among other posts which the APC leadership presented candidates for, but Saraki disregarded all of that and during a plenary on Thursday, named Ali Ndume as senate leader and Bala Ibn Na’Allah as senate deputy leader.

Speaker of the house, Dogara, who also reportedly refused to read the letter written to him by the APC leaders despite the fact that he has had it with him for three to four days, announced a four-week recess, after the rowdy session that saw his camp fighting with house members loyal to the wishes of the ruling party.

Recall that Saraki boycotted the APC leaders’ meeting with president Muhammadu Buhari to emerge as the senate president of the 8th National Assembly.
