At least three prople have died in the aftermath of a clash between dwellers of Matokun village, Patigi Local Government and Fulani herdsmen the Police command in Kwara state has announced.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Ajayi Okasanmi, confirming the clash to NAN in Ilorin on Thursday said, “There was a rift between some Fulani and some Patigi people which resulted to deaths as claimed by the parties involved.
“A unit of mobile policemen had been dispatched to Patigi to maintain the peace, while a team of senior police officers were sent by the Commissioner of Police to broker peace.
“Investigation into the cause or causes of the crisis has started,” the police spokesman said.
The officer however said that police efforts had restored normalcy to the area.
Kwara state like Taraba, Plateau, Benue is notorious for numerous religious, land dispute and communal clashes between villagers and herdsmen.
A most recent event, some 500 gunmen attacked Shonong village in Riyom local government area of Plateau State, burning down about 250 houses in the community.
