Senate Presidency: Implications of Saraki’s win

Senator Bukola Saraki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been elected as the Senate President of the 8th National Assembly. Saraki, a former Governor of Kwara state, who was supported by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday was unanimously elected as the Senate President. He defeated Ahmad Lawan, who was the preferred candidate of the APC.
Considering the drama surrounding his emergence as Senate President, there’s going to be a massive ripple effect across the board.

Ambitious Saraki
Saraki is someone who can and will do anything to achieve his ambition. A lot might have doubted the man, but he is someone who knows how to play the game.

Tinubu loses
Bola Tinubu has been handed his first major defeat in national politics. Tinubu has been on an unbelievable streak so this definitely is a shocker of sorts. You win some, you lose some, Jagaban.

PDP gets revenge
PDP senators aren’t the majority in the house and party just lost the presidency. Jumping in the Saraki’s bandwagon makes ridiculous sense. They also get revenge for 2011 and Tambuwal.

Transparency
A transparent National Assembly is finally a possibility. Saraki presents our best shot at ending the “business as usual” attitude at #NASS.

Lawan’s supporters
After the mock vote, Lawan supporters showed their hands way too early in the game. This will definitely put them on Saraki’s bad side and you definitely don’t want to be on Saraki’s bad side.
