MEND calls on Buhari for urgently intervention
President Muhammadu Buhari had been urged to urgently intervene in the situation of Amnesty programme. The members of Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) made this call today in Yenagoa.
The group expressed it worries over the current situation of Amnesty beneficiaries both at home and abroad. It said that the y beneficiaries are passing through various harrowing experiences because of their unpaid stipends and allowances.
It said that, the situation has reached the point, in which some beneficiaries who could not pay their school fees had been barred from writing their final exams while some have been evicted from their homes.
The group therefore urged the President to approve the disbursement of fund to offset allowances of Amnesty beneficiaries to arrest the situation before it get out of control.
