Governors Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos state and his counterparts in Ogun, Kwara, Ondo, and Plateau have congratulated Muslims across the country on the successful completion of Ramadan Fasting and urged the citizens to continue to embrace peace, love and be tolerant of one another
In their separate sallah messages, the governors urged Nigerians, irrespective of religious beliefs to imbibe the lessons of Ramadan, especially the values of good neghbourliness, patriotism and respect for the sanctity of human life.
Governor Ambode, in his message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, said “We are all members of one nation and in spite of our diversity; we are bound by a common humanity.”
Ambode advised Muslims, especially, to see the Eid-el-fitri not as a period for mere festivity but as one of deep spiritual devotion and rededication to the values of humility and respect for the dignity of human life.
According to him, “The month of Ramadan is intended to teach us how to live good and compassionate lives. It is a month of sacrifice, abstinence and above all, love. In that respect, I encourage us to be our neighbour’s keeper. Look out for your neighbour in the firm belief that he too will look out for you”.
Ambode wished the entire citizens a safe and splendid celebration.
In his own message signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa , Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, said Nigeria will overcome its current challenges and emerge a strong, united and prosperous nation.
He said “The attributes of self-discipline, compassion, brotherliness and patriotism exhibited during the holy month of Ramadan, if sustained, will bring within our reach and attainment the dreams of our founding fathers for a united and prosperous nation.”
He called on Muslim faithful to be in the Chat212 of the campaign for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians and respect for the sanctity of life, noting that “Islam is a religion of peace.”
Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has also urged Nigerians, irrespective of religious beliefs to imbibe the lessons of Ramadan. He emphasised that if Nigerians demonstrate the kind of compassion and love for one another as displayed during the holy month of Ramadan, Nigeria will surmount its numerous challenges and become a role model to other nations.
He advised Muslims, especially, to see the eid-el-fitri not just as a period for mere festivity but as one of deep spiritual devotion and rededication to the values of humility and respect for the dignity of human life.
Governor, Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state in his message admonished Muslims in the country not to return to habits they dropped before the Rammadan. In his Eid-el-Fitr message issued by the State’s Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade in Akure yesterday Governor Mimiko called on Muslims in the nation to sustain the lessons of Rammadan by allowing the God-like characters they lived all through the period of the Ramamdan to become a way of life for them.
Dr Mimiko said love, tolerance and peace are Islamic virtues that true muslims should not compromise, positing that making these permanent habits will go a long way in making the country a better one for all to cohabit. He wished muslims all over a hitch free celebration as they mark the end of the Ramaddan fast.
Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has called on the Muslim community in the state to use the spiritual lessons learnt during the month of Ramadan for the betterment of humanity as enjoined by Prophet Mohammed (SAW).
The Governor in a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Emmanuel Nanle noted that “Islam preaches peace and peaceful coexistence, hence it’s mandatory on all her adherents to work for peace and commit themselves to community vigilance that would aid security operatives’ fish-out all agents of boko haram and terrorists from the country.
“Peace and good neighbourliness is a commandment of the Holy Book, the virtues of which must have been restated in the lessons of the Ramadan for the good of society.”
