The chairman of the Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tunji Shelle, has taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress-led federal government saying it does not have a road map to lead Nigerians to the promised land.
Shelle stated this in a recent interview, adding that while the leadership of the APC is going in one direction, the followers were going in another.
He said:”The APC led federal government doesn’t have a road map, it is confused. The leadership is going in one direction while the followers are going in another. If we don’t have a National Assembly that is stable, then we don’t have a government. It has not shown leadership; it has not shown it is focused and ready to provide good governance.
“People are seeing PDP as a better organised party now. And members of the PDP in the National Assembly now are ready to give a very good account of themselves. PDP generally, is ready to show that it has what it takes to come back to power in 2019.”
On the future of the PDP in Lagos, he said the party is much stronger now than what it was before, noting that more disciplined, decent, qualified and competent people are coming into its fold.
“As for the future of PDP in Lagos State, I will tell you that we are still going to pick more seats in the House of Assembly; at the tribunal I want to believe we are going to get our mandates back in some House of Representatives seats and possibly, a seat in the Senate. I’m sure with the facts and evidence available; our governorship candidate will claim back his mandate.
“I only want to be silent on it because I don’t want to give the impression that it’s just a power struggle; it’s not; it’s a reality, but some people want to forget what happened yesterday; yes, we can forget but let’s set the record straight. Since we are at the tribunal, let’s wait for the outcome as that will determine the direction. But we know we have built new PDP in Lagos; we are much stronger than what we were before.
“We are ensuring that more disciplined, decent, qualified and competent people are coming into PDP. The most important thing now is to build on what we did during the last election; put our house in order; get a new exco; I am not interested in becoming the chairman. I will be talking to you the way I am now; offering advice; I will be called to Abuja to do one thing or the other that will make the party grow. I can call for meetings in my neighbourhood; we stat charting the way forward,” he averred.
Meanwhile, a socio-political group, Bayelsa for Good Governance, has claimed that politicians defecting from the PDP to the APC are doing so to escape the heavy hammer from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
