Buhari Holds Meeting With Eni’s CEO Claudio Descalzi

President Muhammadu Buhari met Claudio Descalzi, Eni’s chief executive officer, in Abuja today, to obtain an update on the company’s activities in the country for the development of both oil and gas resources.
During the constructive meeting, Claudio Descalzi renewed his condolences for the tragedy caused by the recent explosion of a company’s pipeline in the Niger Delta, due to acts of sabotage, which resulted in the death of 14 people.

The meeting was an opportunity for Eni CEO to update the president on the company’s activities in the country geared towards the development of both oil and gas resources. Buhari was particularly pleased with the progress achieved in the offshore activities.

Claudio Descalzi restated Eni’s commitment to the development of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria, while President Buhari expressed his appreciation for the company’s continued engagement in the Nigeria, regardless the current challenging environment of low international oil prices.

Eni has been present in Nigeria since 1962. Its oil and gas production amounted to 135 kboe/d over a developed and undeveloped acreage of 36,123 square kilometers in 2014.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has made new appointments for Nigeria’s oil & gas sector this week. Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu became the new Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Kachikwu takes over from Dr Joseph Thlama Dawha, who was appointed NNPC GMD in August 2014.

The president met Kachikwu on August 3, to complete talks on his vision for the state-owned corporation, which has been tangled in accusation of corruption and dubious accounting practices.
