Buhari taken to court by Lagos lawyer over ...

Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Kabir Akingbolu has filed a suit before a federal high court in Lagos, against President Muhammadu Buhari over what he termed the president’s failure at ensuring adequate production and supply of petroleum products to all Nigerian citizens at regulated prices.

In his suit, Akingbolu argued that President Buhari’s failure to ensure sufficient availability of petrol at fuel stations across the country could result in a breach of peace the country enjoyed as the discomfort suffered by citizens increase.

The Lagos lawyer is therefore asking the court to determine whether the alleged failure of the president to address the fuel scarcity was a breach of the oath of office he took on May 29, 2015 and a violation of the provisions of Section 130 (1) & (2) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) is listed as the second defendant in the suit.

Akingbolu is praying the court to declare that the failure of the defendants (President Buhari and the AGF) to ensure availability of petroleum products is a breach of the oath of office. He also wants the court to declare that President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to fix the refineries in the country is a breach of his constitutional obligation as president.
