David Mark To Testify At Election Tribunal

The Nigerian National Assembly Petition Tribunal has invited former Senate President, David Mark to testify in front of the committee on Thursday, August 18th 2015.

Mark’s call up is due to the challenge by Daniel Onjeh of the All Progresses Congress (APC) over his declaration by INEC as the winner of the Benue South Senatorial election.

Onjeh is arguing that the polls was filled with electoral malpractices and substantial breaches of the Electoral Act 2011 as amended.

He said that INEC officials who presided over the electoral process were compromised by PDP agents at different polling units in the district.

He asked the tribunal to nullify the polls and order for a new poll.

Mark’s defense team led by Mr Kenneth Ikonne said that his client will obey the court’s order and will come in person to testify.

The defense team also produced five witnesses who could all attain that the elections were free and fair.

The witnesses all denied claims of malpractice during the polls as alleged by petitioner.

However, during cross-examination by petitioner’s Counsel, Mr Tunji Oso, one witness revealed that some card readers were used to accredit voters in his polling unit.

The witness had earlier written that the incident forms were used for accreditation instead of card readers in his polling unit.

David Mark lost his senate president position as the PDP lost majority control of the house, which set up the introduction of Senator Bukola Saraki as the new Senate President.
