Gov El-Rufai Loses Is Foster Father Yahya Hamza

Malam Yahaya Hamza, the foster father of Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state has passed away.

Hamza, a renowned educationist and former permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education died in Kaduna last night, August 25, after a brief illness, Premium Times reports.

This was disclosed in a brief statement issued by El-Rufai’s spokesperson, Samuel Aruwan.

Governor el-Rufai was quoted as saying: “Will miss the wisdom and counsel of this great man who became a father to me and guided my steps with tender firmness. We prayed to Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannah Firdaus, and to give the family fortitude.”

The late Hamza was born in 1935. Some of the positions he held were; chairman of the council of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), office of secretary to the Kaduna state government and he served in the education sector.

Hamza, who was buried in Kaduna at 10a.m. today, is survived by wives, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In a condolence message to the governor, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara prayed God gives the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, NAN reports.

The statement issued by his special adviser on media and public affairs, Mr Turaki Hassan, in Abuja read: “The speaker regrets that Hamza’s demise came at a time when el-Rufai needed his fatherly counsel and guidance as he steers the affairs of Kaduna state.”

Dogara described the late Hamza as a foremost educationist and renowned technocrat, whose contribution to the educational development of Nigeria will not be forgotten.
