Tinubu Does Not An Influence Over Us - CACOL

The Executive Director of Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL), Mr. Debo Adeniran, earlier today, Tuesday, August 25, has said that contrary to public belief, the group was not doing the bidding of a former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu.

The Punch reports that CACOL has made it known that it was not being driven by Tinubu. Recall that recently, the group urged President Buhari to give former Lagos state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, any ministerial position for squandering a whooping N78.3m on his personal website while in office. There were however speculations that the All Progressives Congress national chairman was the one behind CACOL’s injunctions to the president.

Addressing newsmen in Lagos today, Adeniran said: “Bola Ahmed Tinubu was arraigned at the level of the Code of Conduct Tribunal and a number of allegations have been leveled against him. We even helped to amplify some of these allegations. “When Bola went to court and obtained an injunction, we said that was not satisfactory to us; we said that Bola should come to the open to defend the allegation that the PDP leveled against him. We said that was the only way he could be seen not to be guilty as alleged, but nobody has been able to prove the allegations.
“We actually went out and tried to verify some of the companies that they said belonged to Bola, we couldn’t find his name on the list of the directors of some of these companies. We didn’t find his name at the Lands Registry; we didn’t find his name at the Ministry of Housing and all that. A lot of people think that we have a godfather in him, it is not true. We looked at him eyeball to eyeball and said go and defend yourself.  “Basically they should know that if theirs is the power, theirs is the glory, it would not last forever. They have been covering up their deeds all the while, they have bought some section of the media, but they have gotten to a stage of no return and they could no longer silence the opposition again, at least they have seen the reality in the publication that came up on the website.

“So, basically, we have a long-drawn battle on our own hands. It is a battle that we cannot predict its end and we should be ready to sacrifice our all because if you are saying it doesn’t affect you, it will affect somebody that is close to you. “For corruption-compliant elements, they should find the closest exit and we should not allow any corrupt element to climb up the ladder, so that they would not foist themselves on us. If Fashola becomes anything in the federal cabinet, he is going to campaign against the Freedom of Information Act, he’s going to campaign for the repealing of that Act because he doesn’t like it from day one. He should not get there at all.”

Fashola’s integrity and anti-corruption posture seems to have taken a nose dive lately. The Lagos state administration under the leadership of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has published a list of contracts from the past administration.
