Rotimi Amaechi, the ex-governor of Rivers state, may finally be screened as President Muhammadu Bihari’s nominee today, October 22.
After a series of postponement owing to a petition supposing corruption, Amaechi’s name is number one on the screening list for Thursday.
The Cable reports that other appointees on the Senate order paper for screening are Heineken Lokpobiri, Cladius Omoyele Daramola, Adewole Isaac Folorunso, Baba Shehuri Mustapha and Ocholi Enojo James.
While, the list can be changed, Amaechi has been spotted at the senate in the company of Dakuku Peterside.
Ex-governor had been excluded from screening a number of times mainly owing to “internal politics” and the fiasco of the senate committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions to give its review on a probe of him.
Amaechi was alleged to have stolen N70 billion of Rivers funds while he was governor in a petition presented to the senate by George Sekibo, senator representing Rivers east.
This is not the first time, while, that former Rivers state governor has featured on the order paper for the screening without undertaking the exercise.
The Senate move into a closed session.
