Boko Haram: Buhari May Change His Mind On Deadline

The deadline set for defeating Boko Haram may not be feasible anymore, as President Muhammadu ‎Buhari has said government is open to modifying the December deadline.

President Muhammdu Buhari has said the government may change the stipulated deadline for the ousting of Boko Haram.

The president’s latest view on the issue was disclosed the opening of the annual Chief of Army staff conference.

Daily Trust reports that the president was ably represented by General Gabriel Olonisakin, the chief of defence staff at the event which held on Monday, December 7 in Dutse, Jigawa state.

General Olanisakin stated that new operational exigencies may require a modification of the December deadline of ending insurgency.

The spokesman said: “Let me emphasize that the time frame given is only a guide line and it’s exigencies of multiple operations across advice a modification.

“The federal government will not hesitate ‎to do so ‎in order to address the flash points that are rearing their heads in this country.”

“The army must therefore develop new strategies to address current security challenges facing the country and ensure total elimination of insurgents,” Olanisakin added.

It would be recalled that only recently, the federal government said the December deadline set for the ousting of Boko Haram still stands. The stance of the government was made known by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the information and culture minister.

Alhaji Mohammed did assure Nigerians in Borno state that the Buhari-led government will ensure no territory will be in the hands of Boko Haram by the end of the year.
