Group Urges Buhari To Appoint Women In Key Positions

A pictured handshake between the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari and Iara Oshiomhole, wife of the Edo State Governor, Adam Oshiomhole, sparked mixed reactions on social media last week.

Some Nigerians expressed the belief that, it was wrong for the president-elect to shake the hands of women, but others saw absolutely nothing wrong with the humble act.

PM news reports that, amid this controversy, the Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF) has urged Buhari to embrace and appoint women in positions of decision making after he assume office on May 29, 2015.

Jonathan approves 2015 budget

Outgoing President Goodluck Jonath DEBTan has approved the N4.5 trillion ($22.6 billion) budget for 2015, which was passed by the National Assembly in late April, the president’s spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati, said yesterday.

 The budget is 3.2 per cent smaller than last year’s as the country is facing a cash crunch following the halving of global crude prices in the past year. The budget was passed later than usual in part due to the presidential election on March 28.
