The new speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Alhaji Shehu Usman Tahir yesterday announced the appointed of six principal officers of the Assembly.
The speaker, who made the announcement at the floor of the House, urged the new principal officers to be honest in the discharge of their duties.
The Speaker announced that Alhaji UmaruYunusa Mohammed from Lere East constituency is to serve as Majority Leader of the House while Alhaji BalaYunusa from Tudun Wada is to serve as Minority Leader.
Others appointed are Philemon Usman Gidan Mana from Makera constituency (Chief Whip), Deputy Majority Leader, Mrs. Esther D. Habu from Sanga constituency, Deputy Minority Leader, Haliru Sambo from Ikara constituency, and Minority Whip, Yakubu Yusuf from Zaria Kewaye constituency.
Meanwhile, a statement from the Clerk of the House, Barr. Umma Hikima denied claims that the House has adjourned sitting till further noticed.
The statement read: “The attention of the House has been drawn to the media reports credited to the former leadership of the House alleging that the sitting of Tuesday that led to the removal of the speaker and deputy is null and void because the House had earlier adjourned its sitting indefinitely.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to clearly state that the House sat on Thursday September 19, 2013 and adjourned to Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 10am, and Order Paper was prepared to that effect; that is why the House sat in plenary.
“Therefore, the House did not adjourn its sitting indefinitely as wrongly claimed by the former leadership.”
