Anambra NMA wants doctors out of Ebola control c’ttee

►Anambra State chapter of Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has advised chief medical directors and medical directors in the state to withdraw their membership of the committee set up on Ebola virus control, if the Government failed to rescind last weekend’s sack of resident doctors.

►The advice came as the state police command restricted the demonstration of NMA members in the state, including the Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi,  only to the NAUTH premises.

The state NMA had, last Sunday,  met at General Hospital, Onitsha, to condemn and reject  the circular released by the Federal Ministry of Health which suspended residency training and terminated the appointments of all medical doctors.

In furtherance of the protest, the NMA, yesterday, staged a peaceful protest in reaction to the sack order on striking doctors, but the police insisted that the exercise must start and end within the premises of NAUTH to avoid a breach of the peace.
But the police team, led by Nnewi Area Commander, Mr. Hamza Ameyi, barricaded the entire hospital and insisted that the doctors followed due process and obtain a permission from the State Commissioner of Police before embarking on the protest.
