NO fewer than 2,000 members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akoko Edo Local Government
Area of Edo State, including an aide to former Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Col Tunde Akogun (rtd), Frank Awe, weekend, defected to All Progressives Congress, APC.

The event attracted the presence of the two APC senatorial aspirants from Edo North, the incumbent senator, Domingo Obende and the Secretary to Edo State Government, Professor Julius Ihonvbere.

Speaking at the rally in Igarra, headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Senator Obende, who declared that the defection of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, to the APC, was the end of the PDP era in the country, lambasted the Police and the Federal Government over the withdrawal of the security details attached to the speaker, asserting that no form of intimidation would stop APC from winning the forthcoming presidential election.

He said with the defection of the Tambuwal and the seeming inability of the PDP to garner two-third majority for a change in leadership, the APC had taken over control of the lower house.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Awe said:  “We were members of the PDP, most us believed that what was happening in the PDP was not fair. When people now see you as being foolish politically, you tell them what you know.”
