Northern Elders Endorse Jonathan’s Re-election Bid

The incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan and his running mate, Vice President Namadi Sambo received the endorsement of the Northern Elders Council (NEC) in the coming 2015 presidential poll.

The elders managed by their Chairman and elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, stated this when they paid a politeness visit to Jonathan at the Aso Rock in Abuja.

Mr. Yakasai said the NEC picked for the Jonathan/ Sambo because they offer the best forecasts for continuous and sustained development, peace, unity and stability of the country.

According to Yakasai, in spite of the several social and security problems, Jonathan through his flexibility, resoluteness, and patriotism competed with his focused leadership has held the country together.

He stated that the president harmonized the country to better heights through the faithful implementation of the government’s Transformation Agenda.

Yakasai continued that the NEC recognizes the administration’s amazing development of the Northern part of the country, especially in the creation of over 120 Almajiri Schools, Girl Child Schools in 13 states, nine new universities, massive dam and irrigation projects, expansion of railways and numerous projects.

He also revealed that the NEC was particularly pleased with the synergy between Jonathan and Sambo, whom they described as “our distinguished son and leader.”

Answering, Sambo told the elders that they took a wise decision by supporting the re-election bid of Jonathan for a second term in the March 28 presidential election.

Sambo expressed delight with the show of love and support by the NEC, under the Chairmanship of Yakasai.

It would be recalled that the Northern Elders Forum last year said it stays firm in its commitment to produce a northern President come 2015, continuing that President Jonathan has did insufficiently and must give way for a president from the northern region, irrespective of political party association.

Meanwhile, the Concerned Northern Youths Forum then criticised the reported endorsement of the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

General Buhari is key opponent of President Jonathan in coming presidential poll, which was postponed by electoral body on February.
