Reports reaching us from Bauchi state reveal that all voters in two polling units have been denied accreditation by the Smart Card Reader (SMR).

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) monitoring the elections, said in Kobi Primary School polling units ‘A’ and ‘B’, not a single person could be accredited by 9.45am as the SMRs had shut out all the voters.

It was reported that whenever a PVC was slotted for verification in the two units, the machines kept indicating “accreditation already closed”.

The INEC staff in charge of the two units, Mohammed Alhassan and Peterson Bagobiri, said they had reported the matter to INEC headquarters, and has been assured that someone would be sent immediately to check the machines.

The INEC staff also stated that voters had been patient and orderly in spite of the hitches.

Meanwhile, in other polling units the card readers had rejected the fingerprints of several voters, while in Kofar Aliyu polling unit of Makama Sarkin Baki ward of the state, it took an average of eight minutes to accredit a voter, due to non-recognition of fingerprints by the card reader machine.
