SHOCKING: Main Reason Why Mu’azu, Anenih Resigned

A MUST READ - Main Reason Why Mu’azu, Anenih Resigned

Intense pressure from the presidency forced the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu to resign, Daily Trust learnt yesterday.

A few hours later, Chief Tony Anenih also resigned his position as chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party. Mu’azu is currently abroad seeking medical attention from where he sent in his resignation letter.

The ruling party has been enmeshed in crisis since it lost the general elections with top party members calling on Mu’azu and his executives to resign.

Members of the NWC had resisted the pressure for about a month now until yesterday when the chairman turned in his resignation.

Sources said Mu’azu’s resignation followed advice from his associates and a “gentle push” from NWC fellow members.

The NWC was said to be under pressure to meet and recommend his resignation yesterday, but gave him the hint to resign to stave off the embarrassment that might follow.

President Goodluck Jonathan, who lost his re-election, has not commented in public on the demand for the chairman to resign or be sacked.

However, sources said the strident calls on Mu’azu to resign by people close to the president like Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose and the Presidential campaign spokesman, Femi Fani-Kayode are pointers to where the thinking in Aso Rock Villa tilts.

Briefing newsmen at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja yesterday, PDP national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh confirmed that Mu’azu has officially resigned.

“For now, because of the interest being generated, I can confirm as the national publicity secretary that the national chairman who has health challenges, stayed down for the primaries, and stayed down for the campaigns of the elections after which he travelled abroad for treatment.

“Upon his treatment and after consultations with his family, he has decided to resign as national chairman. We commend him for the sacrifice that he made during the campaigns and commend him for the love, dedication and commitment he has to this party and we wish him well. We will not forget his services.

“In line with the constitution of the party, the deputy national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, has taken charge as the acting national chairman of the party with immediate effect pending replacement from the North East,” Metuh said.

Metuh did not rule out the possibility of other national officers quitting their offices but said “we will not pre-empt what will happen” and that he would make all events public as they unfold.

Similarly, PDP national secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo confirmed that the NWC yesterday received and accepted the voluntary resignation of the national chairman.

He said the deputy national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus now acts as the national chairman pending a replacement from the North East zone of our great country. He said the NWC has set up a 7-man disciplinary committee headed by Chief Michael Abdul to be inaugurated next Tuesday.
