Buhari Promises Not To Borrow Fund From G7 Countries - Abdulaziz Yari

Chairman of Nigeria governors forum and Zamfara state governor , Abdulaziz Yari ,has disclosed that President Buhari has assured  governors that he was not going to collect funds or seek grants from any G7 countries in his effort to assist in rebuilding infrastructure destroyed in the North East states by Boko Haram.

Yari said: “We also discussed the issue of frontline states as regards insurgency – Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. The President briefed us on his meeting with the G7 countries who have agreed to support the Nigerian government to fight the insurgency to the last.

“Also it was noted that the insurgency has done so much damage to our infrastructure – schools, hospitals, and bridges. The president said he had put a committee in place to go and assess the situation and he had also made a commitment that he would not request money from any G7 country to rebuild the destroyed infrastructure”.

Speaking on the order of the president for the dismantling of military checkpoints, the governor opined, “We also raised concern about the dismantling of military checkpoints ‎on the highways. We are saying it is not timely but Mr. President cited some incidences that happened at the military checkpoints.

“But, he has given the Chief of Army Staff the permission that they can continue (to have checkpoints) where necessary, especially in the North, South East and the frontline states.”

It will be recalled that state governors yesterday met the president behind close doors to  fashion out ways in helping states facing cash crush. Many state governors have been facing difficulty in paying civil servants several months salaries.
