The police command of the Imo state has stopped a 2-man child trafficking organisation which specializes in stealing children and selling them to potential customers.
The two men, recognized as 22-year-old Kelechi Nwogu and 22-year-old Ebuka Ibe, were paraded by the state police commissioner, Austin Evbakhavbokum yesterday June 7th, Punch reports.
The suspects were detained after a distress call was made to the police following the kidnapping of two relatives, 4 year old Chukwuma Ezeribe and 3 year old Chigozie Ezeribe (both pictured above) while they were coming back home from school at Amazu Amato in the Orsu local government area.
Evbakhavbokum said the child traffickers were on their way to sell the children when they were arrested.
He said: “The two victims were being conveyed by the suspects to a prospective buyer before operatives pursued and arrested them.”
Items found in the home of one of the men, Emeka Ibe, comprised one locally-made revolver pistol with one round of 99mm live ammunition, one locally-made short gun with one line cartridge, one locally-made single barrel gun and two big iron cutters.
Also paraded at the state police command were kidnappers named Barnabas Chidiebere (34), Chinwendu Okaru (29), Chibundu Amadi (32), and Kenneth Ordu (29), all of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area who carried out the kidnap of Mr. Martins Ndukwu of Umuokanne in the Ohaji/Egbema council area of the state.
Recently, a pastor and four others in Oyo state has been arrested by the Nigerian Immigration Service for supposed child trafficking in Ibadan.
