Following serious disagreements over the emergence of the new leadership of the National Assembly, the losers have commenced discreet plot to take out their rage on the party.
Meanwhile, the APC chieftains were last night assembling round to satisfy the opposition with an appeal for unity, saying the party must not enter tomorrow’s leadership contest as a divided party.
That plea was, meanwhile, of little effect in the camp of supporters of senator Bukola Saraki’s ambition for Senate President and those for Rep. Yakubu Dogara’s speakership ambition who were maintaining taking the fight to the floor of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Supporters of Dogara, had appealed President Muhammadu Buhari as the party leader to step into the case.
However, despite declarations that it would not be involved in the telling script, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was also mobilising for a strategic association with the Saraki and Dogara tendencies in the APC.
Several opposition governors, it was gathered, are arriving Abuja on June 8, ahead of tomorrow’s leadership races.
The APC has 209 members-elect while the PDP has 140 with smaller parties producing the remaining.
It would be recalled that APC primaries had produced senator Ahmed Lawan and senator George Akume as sole candidates for the positions of President and Deputy Senate President of the 8th Senate correspondingly.
Lawan got 32 votes, while one was declared invalid. Lawan’s appearance is a big blow to the ambition of senator Bukola Saraki, who was in fact, the first candidate to indicate interest in the position.
