Boko Haram Storms Biu, Killing Nine And Injuring Many

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents were said to have stormed Pompomarri village of Borno state earlier this week killing at least nine civilians.

According to Sahara Reporters, this information was disclosed by a vigilante in the area. The attacked village is located 12 kilometers away from Biu town.

Scores of people are feared injured following the sporadic shooting opened by the terrorists.

A resident, who provided his name as Ahamdu Ibrahim, said yesterday:

”They came last night while many of us were asleep. We later discovered that nine people were shot dead and 13 others wounded.”

Vigilante group leader in the area, Musa Biu, told the correspondent:

“Some of our men in Pompomarri village told us that 9 persons were killed but 2 of them had fled Boko Haram from [the nearby] Damboa town.”

Meanwhile the Nigerian Army said on Wednesday, July 22, that the military had cleared mines and insurgents on the road linking Biu – Sabon Gari –  Damboa in the state.

According to Daily Post, this was made known by the army spokesman Sani Kukasheka Usman, thorough a press statement which reads:

“Sequel to the directive by the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, to troops in the 3 and 7 Divisions of the Nigerian Army, on the need to be more proactive in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, in compliance with the directive, additional roads have been cleared by troops for use by commuters.

“The road linking Biu – Sabon Gari – Damboa in Borno state is now cleared of mines and insurgents for public usage. The members of the public are encouraged to use the road as adequate security measures have been put in place for their safety. Similarly, efforts are on for the clearance and reopening of other roads in Borno and Yobe states.”
