The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Plateau on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, said 29 deaths involving 106 road crashes have been recorded across the state in six months.
This was disclosed in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by Andrew Bala, the public education officer of the command.
According to Bala, no fewer than 188 persons were severely injured during the same period.
Bala attributed the carnages to reckless driving, speeding, overloading by commercial drivers and wrongful overtaking.
He however, said that there was over 50 per cent reduction in the rate of accidents in the state compared to the same period in 2014.

“Within the last six months, speed violation accounted for about 65 per cent of the causative factors of road accidents in Plateau.
“Between Jan. and June 2015, a total of 29 persons were killed in 106 road traffic accidents, leaving over 188 persons with severe injuries.
“Compare to 2014, there is drastic reduction in the rate of crashes this year.
“Within the same period in 2014, we recorded 39 deaths, with 384 persons injured in 125 crashes which amounted to more than 50 per cent reduction,’’ he said.
Bala however called on motorists to desist from overloading, speeding and making phone calls while driving.
He also urged them to abstain from drinking while driving, wrongful overtaking and any other negative act that could cause accident.
The FRSC statement comes weeks after a ghastly truck accident occurred between tanker and trailer with many feared dead in Ovia Local Government Area of Edo state.
