Two suicide bombers kill 5, injure 5 others in Borno market

Borno State police command said yesterday two suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers attacked the Sabon Gari village market in Damboa local government area, killing five persons, including the suspects, and injuring five others.

The suspects, according to the police, detonated the Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs strapped to their backs in the market square on Tuesday at 11am.

Sabon Gari is in Sambisa Forest on Maiduguri-Biu road; and is150 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the state capital.

The state Police commissioner, Mr. Aderemi Opadokun, who disclosed this yesterday in Maiduguri, said three traders died in the Sabon Gari twin blasts.

“The insurgents are continuing attacking soft targets of markets, motor parks and hospitals in the Sambisa Forests and its environs.

“Yes, on Tuesday morning at about  11am; twin explosions occurred at the Sabon Gari market in Damboa council area of Borno State after two suspected suicide bombers sneaked into the village market square and detonated the explosives strapped to their bodies and killed three persons.

‘’The suspects also died in the blasts, while five others sustained injuries,” the police commissioner said.

He said the corpses of the dead had been evacuated, while those injured had been moved to hospitals for treatment.

Sabon Gari was early this year attacked by the insurgents who killed over 25 villagers, and snatched food items and other livestock after torching several houses and shops.

Tuesday’s  market blasts bring to 185 the number of those killed in insurgents’ attacks this month as Kukawa and Monguno towns as well as Malari, Zabarmani and Hadamari villages had earlier been attacked.
