Chief Felix Obuah, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) River state chapter has dared the former governor Rotimi Amaechi to prove his innocence following the allegations of embezzlement levelled against him.
In a statement read by Jerry Needam, spokesman for the PDP, Obuah accused the Amaechi administration of fraudulent activities, The Sun reports.
According to Obuah, Amaechi should stop the provocative statements against the former president Goodluck Jonathan and Chief Nyesom Wike, the Rivers state governor.
The PDP chairman appealed for fairness in the anti-corruption fight by President Buhari administration.
He said that President Buhari should not shield Amaechi but urged him to defend himself against the allegations made against him, “if his anti-corruption crusade is genuine, and not targeted at perceived political enemies.”
Obuah noted that it would be reckless for any responsible government not to look into the allegations of fraud against Rotimi Amaechi.
Listing his alleged sins, the ruling party in Rivers recounted how Amaechi illegally disbursed an approximate N2 billion agricultural loan; failed to fulfil a contract for the construction of the Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte Specialist Hospital after the payment of the sum of $39,200,000; illegally withdrew N96 billion from the Rivers State Reserve Fund; and illegally sold the Omuku, Afam, Eleme and Trans-Amadi gas turbines, as well as the Olympia Hotel.
The PDP warned that any move by President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint Amaechi as a minister or the secretary to the government of the federation would be likened to glorifying corruption.
