Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEO), a human rights group, has commended the petition submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by former spokesman of President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Yinka Odumakin, asking the anti graft agency to probe the financial records of Osun State government.
Yinka Odumakin had earlier petitioned the EFCC asking the anti graft agency to probe the Osun state government.
Mr Odumakin, who is currently the national publicity secretary of pan-yoruba cultural group, Afenifere, in his petition accused the Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, of financial recklessness, corruption, money laundering and fraudulent application of Osun State’s resources.
He added that Aregbesola had allegedly received sum of N10 billion from the Federation Account in the month of June and wondered why the governor paid half salary to the workers in the State, after the State government had collected the full allocation from the Federal government that could pay three months salaries conveniently.
“Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola’s government has blindfolded the people of the State with series of lies since all this while on the allocation accrued to the State from Federation Account and as well mismanaged the huge resources accrued to the State which is against the spirit of openness, fairness, justice and accountability promised the people by Aregbesola’s government” the group’s Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, was quoted.
“Mr. Aregbesola has plunged Osun State into debt regime which the State may not recover from, in the next ten years and Mr. Governor failed to give tangible explanations on how funds from federation account like; State allocation, local government allocation, Sure-P, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) fund, Excess Crude Oil, Ecological Fund, accrued to the State and other
funds like; Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Federal Lawmakers Constituency allowances, Workers Pension Contributory Fund, Workers Cooperative Deduction loan, Bond fund and Commercial banks loan”.
Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman urged the EFCC to quicken its investigation into the alleged financial mismanagement.
Earlier, CSCEO had accused Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola of crippling the economy of the state by making it difficult for the people to afford three square meals.
