SEE Why APC Senators Stayed Away From Plenary Session Today

As the controversy over the assassination attempt on Ike Ekweremadu seems to have doused, the All Progressives Congress senators still did not fail to stay away from the sitting presided over by the deputy Senate president today, November 25.

Senator Ekweremadu presided over Wednesday’s plenary session as the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, had travelled to Ikenne in Ogun state to attend the burial ceremony of H.I.D Awolowo which was scheduled to take place today, Daily Post reports.

It was however reported that unlike the last time the deputy Senate president presided over the plenary, today’s sitting was far from being rowdy.

The sitting had three senators sponsoring a Bill which dominated the discussion at the plenary session.

The senators who sponsored the bill titled ‘Alteration Bill’ were T.A. Orji, Babajide Omoworare and Nathan Achonu from Abia Central, Osun East, Imo North respectively.

The proposal for alteration of various sections of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria came as first reading.

Also, senators of the Unity Forum who have been neck deep in leadership tussle including their arrowhead, Senator Kabiru Marafa were said to have been participating fully in the plenary session headed by the Ekweremadu.

Meanwhile, the Senate had on Tuesday, November 24, begun an investigation into the failure of the office of the attorney general of the federation (AGF) to prosecute the chairman of the code of conduct tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, over allegations of corruption.

The upper chamber received the petition alleging corrupt practices against Umar on November 5 and it was submitted to the ethics committee for consideration.

In a related development, the Civil Society Network Against Corruption has demanded the immediate suspension of Umar as the chairman of the CCT over various allegations levelled against him.
