One Day Before Inauguration Jonathan Signs SIX Bills Into Law

Basically one day before the power handover to Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, President Goodluck Jonathan passes six bills into law.
Reuben Abati, the presidential spokesman, has on on Wednesday, taken to Twitter to provide the updates on GEJ’s current activity in the office.

The signed bills include Tobacco Control Bill, National Sugar Development Council (Amendment) Bill, AMCON (Amendment) Bill, Standards Organization of Nigeria Bill, Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency Act and Equipment Leasing Bill.

It was reported on May 25 that the incumbent had signed the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act and the Immigration Act.

The Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act prohibits female circumcision or genital mutilation, forceful ejection from home and harmful widowhood practices.

Interestingly, GEJ has also made a series of breaking removal and appointments in the recent period. The most widely-publicized was the sack of IGP Suleiman Abba. Others include the director general of the National Sports Commission Gbenga Elegbeleye; the executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Femi Thomas; the managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Mallam Habib Abdullahi and the executive secretary of the Petroleum Equalisation Fund, Sharon Kasali.

Meanwhile yesterday Jonathan President Goodluck Jonathan nominated Justice Ishaq Bello for screening and confirmation of appointment as Chief Judge, High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
