The Imo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Senator Ifeanyi Ararume and 19 others from the party for working against the party during the 2015 general elections.
The decision to expel them was said to have been taken after an executive committee meeting of the party on May 4, 2015, which was attended by the chairman of the party in the state, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, deputy chairman, Gen. S.Nlemchukwu Chikwe, and 49 others.
According to a statement issued in Owerri, on May 25, Monday, the 20 members were expelled after a full scaled investigation was carried out and they were found guilty of gross anti-party activities, Nigerian Guardian reports.
“After a full and exhaustive deliberation on the reports of the activities of the underlisted persons against the interest of our great party in the just-concluded general elections whose actions openly evidenced gross anti-party activities, the state executive committee at its meeting of Monday, May 24, 2015 accepts the report and recommendations and accordingly expels the under-listed from the party,” the statement read.
The 19 others expelled include included two governorship aspirants, Jerry Chukwueke and Humphrey Anumudu.
Others affected were listed as Gibson Achonwa, C. Y Amako, Charles Amadi, Kingsley Onunuju, Ethelbert Okere, Jones Uzoka, Nkem Nwankwo, Independence Ogunewe, Nnamdi Obiaraeri, Bethel Nzimako, Celestine Uwakwe, J.C.N. Harcourt, Sunny Heart Ibe, Azubuike Ekwegh, Jeph Ojinaka, J. I. J. Njoku and Stan Nzekwe.
When Daily Trust contacted the chief adviser to Araraume, Dr. James Okoroma, he said the PDP has embarked on another wild goose chase.
He asked: “How can they suspend people who have left them?”
Recall that some PDP members had defected to the APC, after the party lost the presidential election. Araume was said to have defected to the APC and had worked to ensure the victory of Governor Rochas Okorocha in the Imo state poll.
