Police Insists That Professor Was Killed By Villager

The police in Kano have wash their hand off over the death of a professor of Ahmadu Bello University, Ahmed Falaki, stating that the deceased was mob by villagers who mistook him for  fleeing Boko Haram terrorists.

This was made known by the Assistant Inspector-General of Zone1, Kano, Yabo Muhammad, who told reporters that the deceased was not killed by police gunshot as being insinuated from some quarters.

According to the AIG said that the late scholar was travelling in Toyota Hilux van which was seized at gunpoint by some fleeing Boko Haram sects. He stated that villagers who were on the heel of the fleeing insurgents mistook Falaki for one of the terrorists and killed him.

Muhammed further stated that the deceased was in company of his brother and driver as they were  headed for Fala village to seek help after their vehicle was snatched.Muhammad stressed that the villagers attempted to help the police by calling out residents  to block the road to prevent the fleeing insurgents escaping.

The late professor had presented his identical card to the special constabulary on arrival of the scene. But due the ability of the police officer to read the ID, suggested that the late falaki, his brother and driver were part of the fleeing terrorist ate  Falaki’s driver, Tambari, reported that it was the suspicions of the police officer that caused anxiety among the villagers, leading to the mob action and eventually Mr. Falaki’s death.

However, the corpse has since been deposited at the Murtala Muhammad Special for autopsy. The result showed that the deceased dead as a result of severe beating. Further investigations into the incident by the AIG pointed out that the late professor and those traveling with him were not Boko Haram terrorists who had earlier invaded Kibiya Police station.

The police has arrested five suspects in connection with Falaki brutal death and would be soon charge to court for committing culpable homicide punishable by death on conviction under section 221 of the penal code. For the police officer that displays negligence in discharge of his duty, the AIG noted that he would receive appropriate punishment in line with extant law.
