At least eight people have reportedly been killed after crisis broke out in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state.
In the first attack, it was gathered that one person was killed while two persons sustained injuries Tuesday night, July 21, 2015, Leadership reports.
According to the report, a group of youths alleged to be from a Berom community stormed the house of a renowned politician, Alhaji Auwal Tanko who was recently nominated as a supervisory councillor by Governor Simon Lalong.
Irked by the attack, some Hausa youths allegedly ambushed some Berom youths, killing three persons. The corpses of the youths were later discovered in a nearby well after which the matter was reported to the sector commander in charge of the area
According to Alhaji Danjuma Abdullahi, a community leader in the local government, the town was tensed for fear of reprisal attacks.
Speaking after the attack, Tanko Salisu Nasir, a member of Tanko’s family, one of the survivals said:“We had just finished eating our meal when we heard gunshots. The gunmen killed my 10-year-old brother, Hassan Salisu.”
Nasir said he found himself in Mainasara Hospital, where four bullets were removed from his body.
DSP Abu Emmanuel, the police public relations officer (PPRO), confirmed the attack on the residence of Alhaji Auwal Tanko, but said he had no knowledge of the three corpses found in a well.
In another reported violence, gunmen attacked a local bar at Anguwan Durung area of Barkin Ladi local government of the state yesterday, July 22, 2015 and killed four persons including one Mark Lukas.
Mark Lipdo, coordinator of Stephanious Foundation, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Jos.
He said unknown gunmen stormed the bar yesterday afternoon and started shooting sporadically, killing four persons.
This ugly incident comes just weeks after four people were killed in a clash between Fulani herdsmen and Berom youths in Foron village of the same local governemt, Barkin Ladi local government area.
