Eight Political Parties Endorse Jimi Agbaje, PDP Candidate in Lagos

Ahead of the upcoming governorship election, eight political parties have endorsed Jimi Agbaje, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos.

According to Vanguard, the parties include the United Party of Nigeria (UPN), Alliance for Democracy, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Accord, and African Democratic Congress. Others are the Progressive Peoples Alliance, Democratic Peoples Party, National Conscience Party and Citizens Popular Party.

At a press conference held in Lagos on April 9, 2015, leaders of the parties announced that they would work rigorously for Agbaje’s emergence as governor of the state in Saturday’s election.

Femi Ikuomola of UPN, the spokesperson of the group, called on the youths to vote for credible candidates in the election, not paying attention to any threats.

“All the eight political parties hereby pledge allegiance, their total support and unanimously endorse Jimi Kolawole Agbaje, the PDP flag bearer, in the April 11 governorship election in Lagos state,” he said.

Reacting to the alleged threat by the Oba of Lagos to non-indigenes to vote for All Progressives Congress or drown in the Lagoon, the parties said that traditional rulers should desist from endorsing candidates and focus on their traditional role of protecting the culture of their people.

“Any royal father that is interested in politics should renounce his rulership and venture into full politics,” Ikuomola added.

The spokesman took the opportunity to call on Sulieman Abba, the Inspector General of Police, to deploy more security men to volatile states in the country.

Meanwile, the Peoples Democratic Party has recently raised the alarm over alleged plan of the APC to rig out its governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje, in Saturday’s election.
