Despite the loss of Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu in his Senatorial bid and the scandalous loss of other PDP candidates at the March 28 National Assembly elections, the Governor said he wouid rather resign from partisan politics rather than defect All Progressives Congress, (APC) or any other party.
He described politicians defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC) few days after the presidential and National Assembly elections as political prostitutes and who are not principled.
According to him,”those who have defected from PDP to APC have clearly demonstrated that they are not principled and they are suffering from poverty,lack integrity and notmorals and could easily be described as stomack politicians. For me, I will rather resign from politics than defect to APC or any other party.”
Apparently referring to 10 immediate past local government Chairmen who defected from PDP to APC few days ago said some of them have decided to remain in the PDP after the last elections based on principle and on moral ground and vowed to float or sink with the party no matter the condition.
He told the 13 local government Caretaker local government chairmen that paid him a solidarity visit at Government house yesterday that the Saturday election should not be compared to the presidential election saying,”it is no longer Abuja or Buhari politics but local politics because people are interested and much more worried on who takes over from me that will be able to sustain our records on Education, free medical for women and the aged and somebody that will be able to maintain our peace initiatives and this is why you must be on ground to make sure that PDP wins the Governiorship and House of Assembly elections this Saturday,” he remarked.
He called on the electorates not be deterred by defections from PDP adding that those who should should worry are members of the APC who will soon have problems of political profiteers in their hands.
“For principles of integrity, morality, we have chosen to remain in PDP. I heard people insinuating that I have dumped my party candidate for the APC candidate. It is a lie, I will never do such a thing,” he declared.
Speaking on the forthcoming election, he said Niger APC accusation against the PDP over plans to rig in the April 11 gubernatorial election have shown that “they are indeed the very ones trying to rig and cause civil unrest. On our own side, we will abide by the rules to ensure that nobody or party is cheated. The election must indeed reflect the wishes of the people.”
Earlier, former chairman of Wushishi local government and PDP gubernatorial aspirantWushishi who led a group of former local government chairmen in Niger state to the governor on a visit they have still remain loyal and commited to PDP and that more than ever before, they are more resolute to fight on with the party and ensure its success at the polls on saturday.
“Despite the after effect of the presidential election, we remain undaunted. The Buhari effect has come and gone. The next election will not be APC show anymore because we do not have Buhari’s among the governorship candidates of the APC,” the former chairman declared.
The Governor who also received the newly elected Niger state NUJ officials led by its new chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Mohammed thanked the press for standing by him in the past years but called on the leadership to enjoin various publishers of media houses to officially engage practicing Journalists by way of paying them salaries and as at when due in order to get rid of the quacks among them.
