Strike: Oil Workers to Embark On Indefinite Strike
Workers of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) have embarked on an indefinite strike.
The workers of the NPDC, an arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) are striking to halt further transfer of operator ship of about five more divested blocks by the Federal Government.
As a result, the country will lose production of some 115,000 barrels of oil per day valued at $6.9m.
It was also learnt that the workers are actually asking for salary increase in disguise.
The workers, who are under the auspices of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) NPDC chapter simply referred to as NUPENGASSAN, had a meeting yesterday and decided to start the indefinite strike immediately after the meeting.
