Meet Nigeria’s Incoming Super Eagles Coach – BBC Report

Meet Nigeria’s Incoming Super Eagles Coach – BBC Report

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are in advanced talk with ex-international, Sunday Oliseh, over the vacant managerial position of the country’s senior national team. According to the BBC Sport, the 40-year-old former midfielder, who captained the Super Eagles and was capped 63 times, is set to be confirmed head coach of the three-time African champions in the coming days.

The NFF terminated the contract of coach Stephen Keshi on Saturday and have moved in time to appoint his successor, with the national team scheduled to play Tanzania in Dar es Salam in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier in September. Oliseh was part of the squad that won a second Afcon title for Nigeria in 1994 and an Olympic gold two years later.

He also featured in two World Cup finals, including the 1998 edition in France, where he scored a memorable winner as Nigeria stunned Spain 3-2 in a group game. He has been working as a pundit, sport consultant and Fifa Technical committee member, but has relatively little experience as a manager with his only coaching job till date coming at Belgian lower league side Vervietois between 2008 and 2009. Oliseh has however enhanced his resume with the acquisition of the Uefa Pro Licence.

NFF Technical Director Shuaibu Amodu and assistant coach Salisu Yusuf are currently in charge of the team.
