Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has sympathised with the direct victims of this morning bomb attack on Sabon-Gari local government council secretariat, describing it has “a terrible act of infamy.”
The local government staff from Lere and Ikara were undergoing biometric verification when a bomb was set off, killing 25 persons including a two-year-old child. It was gathered that 32 people, who sustained injuries are being treated at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria as well as other hospitals in the city.
Speaking at the scene of the blast, the governor urged the people of Kaduna state to be vigilant, even as they preserve the peace. The governor said residents of the state should promptly report all suspicious persons and activities to the security agencies and community leaders.
He also announced the deployment of extra security forces across the state and urged the people to shun large gatherings. He however, noted that where that is impossible, they should exercise and practice maximum vigilance and vigorous checks on persons, vehicles and luggage.
The state government also promised to announce further steps to strengthen security and safety in the next few days, as it call on the people to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies.
